#4 is the problem. Try that step again, and/or post a screenshot showing the contents of your game directory, the contents of it's 'cfg' folder, and the contents of the directory one level above it. Also, you'll want to try the L4D2 fix version from the downloads page first in case that might ...

Update: Problem persists but I am now wondering if the "voice_loopback" command I used to use months ago for game recording in source could be partly to blame? Is there a way to cancel it or restore defaults? I have used "voice_reset_mutelist" with no effect. I even recorded myself running around ...

I have a very similar problem, maybe the same. I downloaded 1.0.0a7 and 1.6.0a10 separately and had the same issues with both: If I start the game (L4D2, through hldj successfully) and enter a map without doing anything people can hear me on my mic like normal.
