Very Strange HLDJ Problem

Post by Rockcabbage »

Okay, at first my HLDJ didn't work at all, couldn't initialize direct sound capture, I fixed that up by messing with my sound settings and enabling a stereo mix and CD audio, everything has exclusive use by a program, so now, as happy as the clam I am, I opened up TF2 via HLDJ, loaded a song (wave format, console told me it was loaded) and was greeted with an echoing loop of every sound I heard. I backed out and turned off Stereo Mix and downloaded the latest HLDJ for 64 bit Windows 7 ( 1.6.1.0., Or something along those lines ) and tried again, this time it didn't automatically loop every sound I heard, but instead a very, very quiet subtle sound that looped/echoed until it became a relativity loud tone, thats when I turned back here? What could be possibly wrong? I tried the same thing with several songs but no results. I get the mic symbol and my name in the bottom/mid right screen, but no audio files are played.

Do you have a mic? If you look around the help section of the forum, you should find several topics involving an issue where HLDJ just enables your mic and starts playing back to you any sound it captures. If it's looping every sound you heard, your microphone might be picking up noise from your speakers. The second thing you described certainly sounds like feedback, anyway. Try the steps in the sticky, especially step 4. Also, check if the server you play on has sv_allow_voice_from_file set to 1.

After I booted up Team Fortress 2 and loaded up a sound file, I found "voice_input.wav" in my steamapps/username/teamfortress2 folder. I do not have a mic nor have I connected one. I do have a pair of speakers, though.
The server I play and test on is a mic spam server, hundreds of people with HLDJ play there daily and sv_allow_voice_form_file is 1

It's possible your files were not converted properly. Have you tried the sample files?
