HLDJ stops playing file after a few seconds. (1.6.0a10)

Post by joystick »

My hldj which is version 1.6.0a10, randomly stops whatever file I'm playing after ten or so seconds. I have tried many different versions of hldj and it all ends with the same result. I have converted my sounds to the proper wave length and all that blarghness. I have even searched in the source engine for a command that could possibly give me a reason it is the culprit behind my problem. It has only played one song successfully through and I don't see a difference in the way the sounds are setup. It will play the bennyhill theme through, but it doesn't seem to like anything else I throw at it. It does this on all servers, even in single player.

Could you please follow the instructions in the sticky? We need more information to help you. Make sure you read the whole thing. Of interest might be this line: "If you experience your audio files cutting off early (at around 20 seconds or so), ensure you are using a quality audio editor (such as Audacity)."

I'm not sure if I should be posting my own topic for this, but I have a similar problem, where I can play music for anywhere from 20 seconds to 2 minutes before it stops.

If you are still experiencing problems, please include the following diagnostics in your help request:
1) Does HLDJ launch the game correctly for you?
Yes, though I prefer manual launch.
2) Does "HLDJ Loaded Successfully" appear in console on starting the game (with no errors)?
Yes. Occasionally, it has an error writing a file. I have to manually delete a hldj_custom.cfg.
3) What is the console output after selecting a song, or issuing other HLDJ commands such as "hldj_next"?
hldj_cmd_c.cfg
"F12" = "Loaded: <song name>"
4) After loading one of the sample audio files, perform a search of your Steam directory (without stopping HLDJ) for the file "voice_input.wav" - does it show up, and if so, where?
Do I have to? The audio plays just fine, up to a point.. It's in cstrike, btw.
5) Does voice normally work for you? If not, or you do not have a mic, have you remembered to set up any applicable options in your operating system and/or the game? *
I can talk with my mic.

I am trying to use HLDJ with Counter-Strike 1.6. Some songs will work correctly, the most troublesome so far being Basshunter songs. I'm converting using the built-in converter, and reducing the bass and volume using Audacity (1.2.6, possibly 1.3 Beta in future).

This is beyond my personal knowledge, but I do have a suggestion. Try comparing, in detail, the songs that do work fine to the ones that don't. See if something is different. Also try comparing with the sample songs. My guess would be, since only certain songs have problems, it's the songs themselves.

Thanks.

Are there any known issues with certain patterns in sound files?

No, although it could be a server lag issue causing the sounds to fade out. But if they stop playing completely, and you are using the HLDJ audio converter, you can upload the problematic (original) audio and one of us can give it a try.
