HLDJ built-in converter works but not Audacity

Post by MrVoila »

1) Does HLDJ launch the game correctly for you?
Yes.
2) Does "HLDJ Loaded Successfully" appear in console on starting the game (with no errors)?
Yes. No errors, just the loaded successfully message.
3) What is the console output after selecting a song, or issuing other HLDJ commands such as "hldj_next"?
Normal loaded successfully.
4) After loading one of the sample audio files, perform a search of your Steam directory (without stopping HLDJ) for the file "voice_input.wav" - does it show up, and if so, where?
Not sure. Didn't check as I've gotten HLDJ to work.
5) Does voice normally work for you? If not, or you do not have a mic, have you remembered to set up any applicable options in your operating system and/or the game? *
Yes. Voice works fine.

So here's my problem. I didn't answer some of the above questions because I do know that HLDJ does work. My problem is with Audacity. I posted on here because I thought maybe this had to do more with HLDJ compatibility than Audacity.
Anyways, I'm an audio person to a point, in that I understand how to use Audacity. I've read the manual and understand what settings files must be at to be used in a Source game (11025 Hz, mono, 16-bit, etc). Every time I attempt this in Audacity, the file saves correctly as such. I've opened them in iTunes and checked the info, and they are listed as 16-bit mono at 11.025 kHz. However, my files NEVER work with HLDJ. The transmit ! appears and I hear other voices cut in and out, but my file doesn't play. As stated above, my mic works fine. However, if I use the HLDJ built-in converter, those files play. This leads me to believe something I'm doing in Audacity is either not saving properly or not being done on my part.
Can anyone think of any similar problems or ideas that may be interfering with my .wav files? I read about ID3 tags and deleted that information, but it didn't work. Any other ideas would be appreciated. I'll elaborate more if any more information is needed.

My first response would have been the id3/metadata, but if you're sure that's not the problem, maybe try another version of Audacity, or double-check you are following the steps correctly from the manual.
