Can't Access the command box in tf2

I've tried multiple times to start and stop hldj, and restart tf2. But whenever i press "[" (the key i've used to make the command box come up, it never works.

I may have missed something in the instructions but i've re-read it and can't figure it out.

Probably your console isn't enabled in TF2:
Options->Advanced->Enable Developer Console
or you can add "con_enable 1" to your config.cfg

ran into another problem, generally how long does it take to load a song?

It is in the right format.

I had everything work and it said it was loading the song but it never said it finished and i couldn't play the song.

Generally it's very quick. You should be able to play it seconds after loading. If not, refer to the manual and stickies to ensure you've got everything setup correctly.

I feel stupid, i can't get anything to play.

I even tried the sample file.

Does this not work if i don't have a mic?

If you have Vista, there are reports you may need to plug in a mic momentarily to activate the sounds drivers.
