Perhaps you, much like myself, have had problems with using the beta version of Audacity. In my case, any song I convert with the beta will not play in game. No big deal, that's what the stable release is for...except I'd much rather do any equalization using the beta's sleeker interface.
Anyways, the workaround I found is deceptively simple:
Use the beta to convert and export your song. Open the resulting yoursong.wav with the stable release, and without changing anything, export it again.

The beta release has a much better interface, in my opinion, especially for doing equalization.
