ListAudio Unknown Command :(

Post by lawlzers »

I have followed the tutorial of hldj very closely and I'm quite sure I have it set up right. I have spent over 3 hours trying to set hlss up on this computer before and it never worked. On a different computer I set up hldj just fine, but it seems that this computer doesn't want to play music ingame for me :(. I have a feeling its something wrong with my cstrike folder because when I type in la (listaudio) into css I get this message 'Unknown command "la"' I'm wondering if maybe there should be a file in my cstrike folder? If someone could send me a list of what should be in there regarding hldj that would be awesome. Please help and ty to whoever does.

Make sure the game directory of the game in HLDJ is set to the correct path (i.e. "...steamapps\<your account>\counter-strike source\cstrike"). The necessary HLDJ files will be created in cstrike\cfg on starting the game, there's a few of them, the one necessary for commands (such as "la") is hldj_init.cfg.

Is there anyway I can download these files from somewhere else? Because they aren't being created in there :(

You could, but if they're not being created, that's an indicator of a larger problem at hand (possibly incorrect game directory). If it works with your other games, try re-installing the game that doesn't work.

It hasn't worked on any other game and I've also tried installing skins but couldn't find that folder either :o If someone sends me the files will hldj still work ingame? Or should I reinstall steam/css?

First check that:
1) you've pressed "Start" in HLDJ
2) HLDJ launches the game for you successfully
3) in console, the message "HLDJ started successfully" is displayed
4) hldj_*.cfg files are created in your cstrike\cfg folder

Also, ensure that you have permission to read/write to the game directory. If you're running Vista I've heard of something like this occurring rarely from some Vista users, but they all reported that "la" at least worked fine. If all else fails, try re-installing the game/Steam.

In most cases copying the files will not work, even still, HLDJ dynamically updates the files, so it would work only once.

There is no mention of hldj in my console once my game has started. I have tried using different options like starting the game when i push play on hldj, none of the options help at all. There is no cfg files in my cstrike folder.

And are you on Vista? Other than that, if you're sure the game directory is correct, I don't know what else to suggest as the problem... or solution.

Hmm, I would say don't bother: at this stage it seems to be an OS/HLDJ problem (are you logged in as admin? do you have SP3 installed?). If you are *positive* that the game directory is correct, then really Steam is not even involved; it boils down to HLDJ being able to copy the pertinent files to that directory. If it can't (as it seems) and everything else seems fine, then something is failing silently along the way. My guess is there is something about your OS setup that causes the copy routine to fail (i.e. insufficient permissions). This problem seems extremely rare, and as you mention, it works fine on your other comp. I'm at a loss to figure out exactly what the cause is, but if you manage to tweak something and get it working, by all means *please* do let us know and maybe I can get a fix in if it so requires.

I feel completely, utterly, impossibly, stupid. Thank you so much for all the attempts at helping me fix my problem but it seems I am incapable of reading :| Under Program Files I had Valve etc. cstrike (which I was using for hldj). I failed to notice that it was a previously installed css and was useless. I then found out under Program Files I have Steam etc. cstrike which works perfectly. I'm very sorry for wasting your time and ty so much for trying to help me it works perfectly fine now :) Great response time though :P 1/100 forums actually responded to me.

No worries, it's why I always insist on checking the game directory first; happens to the best of us.
