what if I have IE 8 no beta, cuz it was released.

For anyone experiencing this issue, please do the following:
1) when crash occurs you should be prompted with a Windows Error Report dialog
2) Click "To see what data this error report contains, click here"
3) Click "To view technical information about the error report, click here"
4) Copy-paste the information in the dialog that follows here or upload it as a text file

Can't even copy the technical data. Doesn't allow you to.

try placing the cursor inside the text area that contains the data, then select-all (CTRL+A), copy (CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V).
If that doesn't work, a screenshot displaying as much info as you can would be helpful as well.

As per the topic OP, you can see that it's an issue with IE8:
"ModName: mshtml.dll"
"ModVersion: 8.0..."

I would ask you to post the rest of the error, but there's not much I can do - HLDJ doesn't make any calls into this dll directly, so the issue is a Microsoft screw up (and we all know how rare those are...)
Try re-installing IE8, or another version, or even better: completely uninstall it.
I've updated the OP with some more info/suggestions courtesy of Google, have a look.

Ah, editing my post. Found the stupid uninstaller thing.

For some reason, lately I have been crashing once I push Setup. I have 1.5b, and HLDJ works fine for the games I already have set up. Just, as soon as I push that button, it crashes. I do not have IE8 (I only have IE7 and Firefox), and the file is different (ntdll.dll). I have Vista. Getting a new download does not help. Any ideas?

this seems unrelated so should ideally be in a new topic; anyways has 1.5 been working for you all along, under the same conditions? If so are you running an antivirus? Is there any malware/viruses on your system? Have you installed anything recently that may be related?

Sorry about that. Going down the list...

1) Yes, it even works for whatever games I currently have set up. It's just now that Setup isn't working.
2) Yes, Norton 360 Premier.
3) None I am aware of.
4) Outside of Steam, don't believe so. Left 4 Dead 2 in terms of Steam.

If Setup worked before, and now is consistently not working without reason, I'd suspect the antivirus (in most cases they behave like viruses themselves), see if you can turn it off.

I was able to turn off everything but Phishing Protection and Backup, but still no luck.

try running it as administrator (if you're not already) or in compatibility mode

I'm already an admin, and no luck with compatibility.

Sorry, not much else I can suggest. When I get the time, I can put up a debug version, I'll post it up and you can try that when I do.
