Team Fortress 2 update
Hi, I have downloaded HLdj two days ago, and finally got it working... however steam has gone and updated the chat/ audio, and I can no longer play my sound files. Any ideas?
Re: Team Fortress 2 update
You're not the only one.
TF's blog says "TF2’s now hooked up to Steam's new SILK audio codec, which dynamically adjusts bandwidth demands for superior internet audio. Listen to people around the world call you horrible things with crystal clarity."
The specific update says, "Updated voice to use the Steam voice codec to improve quality. Servers can toggle between the old codec and the new codec with the convar "sv_use_steam_voice", which defaults to 1."
It might be a server side issue, but for now it seems audio for mic-spamming is disabled.

I wrote up a tutorial here on how to micspam without HLDJ or conversion. With the new codec, fine editing of micspam is no longer required, and thus, the method I posted is much more viable. There are a few inconveniences to it, like not being able to speak without a bit of trouble, and the simple fact that there's more to do before you start TF2, but it's worth it in the end for the drastic quality increase.
As a regular micspammer for three years, I see this as a blessing, rather than a curse. Finally we can stop calling it micspam, and start calling it simply a player maintained radio.

So the usage of Hldj has been perposely blocked or is it a side effect from the update? Either way it is killing a cool aspect of the game.
Re: Team Fortress 2 update
It's likely they updated to the new codec and didn't bother re-implementing old code just to get the old functionality to work.

In my opinion, it's likely just a side effect. Now we can just wait on Valve's opinion of micspam to see if they will help the HLDJ team fix it or not.louderthanthunder wrote:So the usage of Hldj has been perposely blocked or is it a side effect from the update?
