HLDJ not switching sounds in HL engine based games

I've been using HLDJ for over a year now without any major problems. But now out of the blue I can no longer get HLDJ to switch sounds in game in Half life engine games.

Whenever I enter in hldjn, it keeps repeating to me the same first file in my playlist. Whenever I try and play it, I only get feedback noise from my game. I looked for a voice_input.wav in any of my folders and there was none there, so I copied and renamed a converted wav to voice_input. It still would not change the sound upon entering hldjn, and now when I start playing a sound, its only the file I replaced voice_input.wav from. When I minimize it and press the stop button, all the cfgs and the voice_input wav dissapear, but when I activate it again, the cfgs return but the voice_input wav doesn't.

HLDJ is working completely fine for me in TF2 and other source engine games. I've installed HLDJ 1.5.0 beta and still have no luck with it. If you're wondering, I'm using vista, and my mic/recording and input options should be fine, as I've not touched them and its working fine with source games. I've also plugged in my mic to see if anything would change, but nothing did.

I'd appreciate it if you could offer any kind of assistance.

Does "HLDJ loaded successfully" appear in console when you start the game?
What is your game directory?
Double-check in HLDJ Setup that the game's "engine" is set to "Half-Life"

have you recently used/installed mods or script(s)?
also, try deleting the problematic game profile, and re-adding it in HLDJ
