HLDJ Not Working with L4D2 (crashes game)

1) Does HLDJ launch the game correctly for you? Yep.
2) Does "HLDJ Loaded Successfully" appear in console on starting the game (with no errors)? Yes.
3) What is the console output after selecting a song, or issuing other HLDJ commands such as "hldj_next"? See description below.
4) After loading a song, perform a search in your Steam directory (without stopping HLDJ) for the file "voice_input.wav" - does it show up? where? Yes. C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\left 4 dead 2
5) Does voice normally work for you? If not, or you do not have a mic, have you remembered to set up the appropriate options in your OS and the game? Mic works in-game fine and I set it up as PTT.
So as I indicated above, HLDJ loads fine and I can select files from my audio directory just fine. However, when I use the "n" key to play the sound, L4D2 locks up and crashes with a C++ runtime error. I believe the error is the same as the one indicated at the end of this thread. Only I am running WinXP (SP3). I'm sure all my game and OS sound settings are correct because like I said, without trying to play sounds with HLDJ, I can use in-game chat just fine and others can hear me. Any thoughts/suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
