HLDJ won't detect DOD:S

Post by Westy543 »

HLDJ works fine in Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead, but when I look at DOD:S, it only accepts C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\westy543\day of defeat source\dod\cfg instead of C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\westy543\day of defeat source\dod\

Any ideas? I tried manually editing settings.hldj (bad idea), but that didn't work. It just spit out errors. I tried the 1.5 beta, no luck either. I tried using a custom game dir, and it wouldn't launch the game.

Edit: The menu comes up in console but it can't find command "writecfg."

Make sure there's a gameinfo.txt present in the game directory (this is necessary for HLDJ to recognize it as a Source game). I'm not sure why, but sometimes Steam fails to create it.

Yes, there is a GameInfo.txt and it appears up to spec. Anything else I might try? My current issue is that the console spit out an error once I got the menu to come up, saying it couldn't writecfg.

That's just a symptom of the larger problem: the fact that it's not being detected as a Source game.
The gameinfo.txt needed to be present at the time you setup HLDJ, it seems likely it wasn't. Have you tried re-adding it since? (or yeah, you can directly edit the settings file too.)

AWESOME! This worked! Thank you so much!

Yeah as I stated in the OP I edited settings.hldj directly in notepad... bad idea the first time. :V

Edit: Uhhh actually, it's not launching DOD:S out of Steam but it IS detecting the directory.
Edit2: Could be a Steam bug. Only time will tell.
Edit3: It detected DOD:S, gonna check now if it works ingame.
Edit4: Yes, EVERYTHING is working properly! Thank you so much, again!
