[SOLVED] Playback: Song won't play, mic works

Post by Irina »

SOLVED: See bottom of thread

Game: Team Fortress Classic
Engine: GoldSrc (Half-Life)
Key binds
Playaudio: bind f1 "hldj_playaudio"
Command relay: "="
Most settings are default.

- - - - -
Okay, so the story here is that a friend of mine can't get HLDJ to work, not even with my help. For some reason, the playaudio command triggers his microphone, despite that F1 is bound to hldj_playaudio. "K" is bound to the microphone and he is using the sample sound from the forum to test.

He can hear himself typing and tapping at the microphone. Song will NOT play, but his microphone will be turned on when hitting the F1 (hldj_playaudio) key.

Has anyone heard of this issue before and know a way to fix/workaround it? Checked the forum, but people sure know how to make an appropriate title/description of their problem... </sarcasm>

SOLUTION:
Okay, so after trying a few various things, UNPLUGGING the microphone altogether seems to have made it work. It appears to be a Vista issue with the microphone input settings, which I'm NOT even gonna attempt to solve, so short answer: It works WITHOUT a mic. Damn Vista.

Hope this can help other people as well.

indeed, damn Vista.
But I can't condemn it in this case - usually users experience problems without a mic. So if your friend's mic is working fine in-game, then the issue would seem to be with the game; it's the one that decides whether to use mic input or audio file input.

You may want to investigate further (i.e. test on the same server, settings, file, etc). It almost sounds as if voice_forcemicrecord was being enabled (even though HLDJ automatically adjusts this). Double-check your other voice_ vars while playing (enter 'cvarlist voice_' in console). Of course this is all depending on the willingness of your friend... some just enjoy the 'quick-fix'.
