Music cannot be heard on playback in TF2

Post by Delta51888 »

I am trying to play back songs in Team Fortress 2 with HLDJ.

I have checked, double checked, and triple checked that my files are 16 bit, mono, wav, 11025 Hz.
The game directory is correct.
The audio directory is correct.
To attempt to play the files, while in a server, I open the console (~), hit "la" to get the list of files, I type "4" for example, it says "Loading blahblah", then I exit the console & hit the play key (F9), I hear nothing. So I think for a moment & I tap my microphone (Logitech external USB) & I hear feedback. So I turn off my mic with the physical button on the base of it, tap it again while the playback continues & the sound goes away.
I also have a Creative X-Fi Elite Pro sound card, 2 x EVGA 8800 Ultra in SLi, EVGA 680i mobo, intel QX6800.

Thanks for your help.

Are you on Vista? If not (or even if so), check that the voice_input.wav is making its way to the correct directory (...\Steam\steamapps\account\team fortress 2). If it is and you are on Vista, you may want to check a few topics below on some tips for overcoming problems in Vista.

Yes, it's there, but still no sound.

BTW, I'm on XP Pro.

After loading a song, and checking that voice_input.wav is in the correct folder, enter this into your console:
"voice_inputfromfile 1; voice_loopback 1; voice_forcemicrecord 0; voice_modenable 1; voice_enable 1; +voicerecord"
That should start playing the file; if not, there may be something wrong with your game's sound/mic configuration.

I am getting the exact same issue as Delta.

I'm running Windows XP Professional x64 (I assume he is on x86, but he didn't say), and I also happen to have a USB headset/microphone.

I tried all the solutions posted in this thread, and I still get the same results: No audio playing, it simply seems to be listening on my microphone for input. I can tap on it or talk and get feedback.

Any ideas?

My issue still remains, and yes I have x86 XP, but when I set my recording for "What U Hear" on my sound card in Ventrilo, that works with any sounds and that enables sound to come through my microphone.

Wanted to post that in case it helped any.

PS: It seems like I have a curse with sound and related devices when connecting them or getting them to work with PCs.

Did you try my previous suggestion? Really all that needs to take place is that "voice_input.wav" is located in in your "..\team fortress 2\" directory and the aforementioned commands are used. If that doesn't work and your regular mic does work, then it's an issue with the game, if neither that or your regular mic work, then it could be an issue with your sound configuration/drivers.

The "voice_input.wav" is in the correct directory and I used the commands and got the same result. It seems to be listening on my microphone for input (which is working properly), so I'm not sure what the issue could be.

I have not tried in any other games.

One other thing you can try is: http://www.hldj.org/manual/tips_tricks. ... meaudiodir
This will make certain the file is in the correct directory.

Check some of the topics below, there are some things you may need to do specifically for Vista (i.e. plug a mic into the port to activate the DirectSound drivers and/or update your drivers)
