Having problem with tf2 and loadout

Everytime I launch HLDJ in tf2 I seem to have a problem with my loadout. I lose everything, my backpack is empty. It says steam cannot connect. I exit HLDJ and try again but I have the same problem over and over. Is this just me?

This is not a HLDJ related problem.
