wav files not playable

Post by carlos »

im on windows 7 64bit

1) Does HLDJ launch the game correctly for you?

yes

2) Does "HLDJ Loaded Successfully" appear in console on starting the game (with no errors)?

yes "HLDJ successfully loaded! "

3) What is the console output after selecting a song, or issuing other HLDJ commands such as "hldj_next"?

] la
Current: (none) Next: lift music 2
Directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\HLDJ\Audio
1. .\ 2. ..\
3. lift music 2 4. lift music
5. NY Rush 6. See You Space Cowboy
7. Tank
] 7
Host_WriteConfiguration: Wrote cfg/hldj_cmd_c.cfg
Loaded : Tank

4) After loading one of the sample audio files, perform a search of your Steam directory (without stopping HLDJ) for the file "voice_input.wav" - does it show up, and if so, where?

downloaded "sample_src" - into hldj\audio folder

tried to load song, but the la didnt contain the sample. performed the search anyway for voice_input.wav and found it in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\g2m_2002\counter-strike source (i guess i should have refreshed the audio console through css console.

deleted the voice input wav

5) Does voice normally work for you? If not, or you do not have a mic, have you remembered to set up any applicable options in your operating system and/or the game? *

voice works on everything, including steam settings\voice tab\test, and ventrillo.

in-game voice not working on css.

update: after deleting the voice input i tried again, loaded the sample wav played on server and it worked. my other songs didnt work, ive been told not to use the automatic converter on hldj so i used audacity. followed instructions. compared my wavs to your sample and noticed they we're all on 32 bit float. even though when i export i make sure its on 16bit. this is very confusing as your sample should have 16 bit as mentioned in guide. but even your sample is on 32bit and its playing back fine on server....

i think im going to leave the exports on 32 bit...

the inbuilt convertor works and wavs are playable but audacity no........ is there any difference between using your convertor, audacity and/or goldwave. I want the export to be as a good as possible.

appreciate any help..

The sample audio files are 16-bit, you can check this in file properties as Audacity tends to always display tracks as 32-bit. Make sure you are clearing any & all ID3/metadata during the export process in Audacity.
The built-in converter performs high-quality decoding, re-sampling, & gain adjustments; however unlike Audacity, it lacks more complex filtering options such as equalization & soft-clipping. This means that good-quality audio is usually converted fine, but others (i.e. too much gain/bass) may exhibit harsh clipping. When it works well, it works well. And when it doesn't, it sounds noticeably bad. It was included for convenience and to remove doubts about proper formatting. Whether you use it is up to you and based on the type of audio you are converting and the results you get.
