steam.exe error

When I try to load a game using HLDJ, I get this error. It happens with all source games, whether it is CS:S or a mod, like bg2

Things that did not help resolve the problem:
-rebooting PC, restarting steam
-using a freshly downloaded copy of HLDJ
-deleting 'clientregistry.blob' in the steam folder and update steam
-swearing

As from the error message, this is not an HLDJ bug, it is a Steam bug. You should:
- re-install Steam
- contact Steam support

I reinstalled steam (but I kept my 'steamapps' folder, except for that all the other files were replaced)

still the same error


EDIT: I asked a friend for his steam.exe, I overwrote mine and guess what, HLDJ runs perfectly now
