Audio is garbled/distorted

Post by Trex »

-Running windows xp pro
-hldj 32bit, goldsource engine for steam
-audacity to convert files to wav
-Team Fortress Classsic

1) Does HLDJ launch the game correctly for you?
Yes

2) Does "HLDJ Loaded Successfully" appear in console on starting the game (with no errors)?
Yes except for these two lines
"couldn't exec hldj_quickselect.cfg"
"couldn't exec hldj_help.cf"
It does say hldj loaded successfully

3) What is the console output after selecting a song, or issuing other HLDJ commands such as "hldj_next"?
After selecting a song, i get this msg:
hldj_cmd_c.cfg successfully created!
"=" = "Loaded--SONG NAME"

4-a) After loading one of the sample audio files, perform a search of your Steam directory (without stopping HLDJ) for the file "voice_input.wav" - does it show up, and if so, where?
Shows up in my steam directory:
C:\Steam\steamapps\XXXXXXX\team fortress classic\tfc

4-b) If it exists, open it in an audio player: does it sound like the audio file you loaded?Yes

4-c) If it exists, return to the game, and enter the following into console:
Does the audio file start to play?

Yes, i did all the codes

5) Does voice normally work for you? If not, or you do not have a mic, have you remembered to set up any applicable options in your operating system and/or the game? *
Yes
================================================================

Everything is working normally i guess, but the only thign wrong is that whe ni try to play my song, it is VERY garbled and distroted. I can faintly hear the song but there is alot of jumbled mess.

Thanks guys

One of the most commonly reported issues is improper conversion of audio files, so if you suspect this or are unsure, please verify this by testing with one of the sample audio files (preferably on your own server).
... for older Half-Life games, use those under GoldSrc (and test on a server that is using high-quality voice settings, in console: "sv_voicecodec voice_speex" and "sv_voicequality 5").

Ok i tried your suggestion and the sample audio files on your downloads page are still distorted. They sound very wierd, so it must not be a conversion problem right?

Also i noticed, when running the hldj program, everytime i die and respawn, the console screen flashes and i have to manually close it. Is there a way around that?

Did you follow the entire quote, especially the last part?

In terms of the console flashing, that depends on the game and the scripts you have running. It could be the game or a script (or even the server you are playing on) that is executing some command that triggers the console, possibly calling "exec exec.cfg" which will in turn re-initialize some hldj scripts and cause the console to pop up. Verify the scripts you are running, try another server, or test on another game to confirm this.

I followed everything you did to the T.

Ive tried multiple servers and the console continues to flash. I dont have the "exec exec.cfg" in any of my cfg files however.

And yes my audio is still garbled :(
