HLDJ used to work, suddenly stops working

Hey guys, I'm sorry to add to a huge pile of similar calls for help but I've done all the troubleshooting I can on my own and cannot find a solution. I installed the latest version of HLDJ a few days ago and it worked like a charm, I had no problem editing and converting songs or clips with the help of Audacity, and everything went without a hitch. Then yesterday I was adding a few more wav audio files and suddenly in-game I only get either A: no sound or B: clipping feedback when I hit F1 after loading a file.

Here are my diagnostics:
1) HLDJ launches Team Fortress 2 correctly.
2) "HLDJ loaded successfully" does appear in the console window upon launch. Originally there was a "error writing 1" or whatever notification, presumably fixed by deleting hldj.xxx files in the cfg folder.
3) After loading the file "bond_theme" I get
"Host_WriteConfiguration: Wrote cfg/hldj_cmd_b.cfg
Loaded : Bond_theme"
4) a voice_input wav file does indeed appear in the correct directory (steam/steamapps/user/teamfortress2) after loading an audio file. After manually inputting the command in the console, I get the same issue; The exclamation point appears so I am "transmitting" audio (hence the occasional clipping or feedback) but no audio is actually being accessed or produced.
5) My mic is still working fine, and I can talk in game.

Some solutions I have tried:
Reinstalling HLDJ
Trying HLSS (exact same result)
Removing the new audio files and only keeping the ones that worked before
Double checking the game directory and audio directory are correct (steam/steamapps/user/teamfortress2/tf for game, steam/steamapps/user/teamfortress2/tf/sound for audio)
Using the provided audio sample (same result)
Checking to see if there was any metadata by using the provided editor in Audacity (there isn't in any files)

This one is a doozy. I'm posting as a last resort, please share any ideas you have and I'll try them.
