4-a) Load one of the sample audio files and perform a search of your Steam directory (without stopping HLDJ) for the file "voice_input.wav" - does it show up, and if so, where?
Yes, under Team Fortress 2.
4-b) If it exists, open it in an audio player: does it sound like the audio file you loaded?
Yes, it does.
4-c) If it exists, return to the game, and enter the following
Code: Select all
into console. Does the audio file start to play?
No, it didn't. Tried multiple times and 2 different files.
5) Does voice normally work for you? If not, or you do not have a mic, have you remembered to set up any applicable options in your operating system and/or the game? *
Voice works normally.
I've been working with 2 friends of mine on this for quite a while. I've gotten it narrowed down to the point that it isn't HLDJ (the application's) fault, per say, nor is it Audacity's fault alone (I think) when converting files.
I'll explain what I've done with my example I used up there. My song, One Trick Pony, gets loaded into Audacity. I've been very careful to make sure that every change is made to the file and it is saved as a .wav. I have it put in my Audio folder along with all my other songs I want to use along with a sample from this website. Boots up the game (Team Fortress 2) fine, all systems normal in the console. I load the song and go to a server that allows HLDJ use. When I press F1, though, the (!) appears saying I am on, but no sound comes out and my name does not light up. No one else sees/hears me either. About 80% of the time when I then turn it off, my name lights up for about a 1/10th of a second and then turns off again, sometimes making a quiet sound.
Doing all of the above with the sample file works perfect. File plays at normal volume, and everything's good. I even borrowed a file my brother uses on his system by having it sent from Skype - it also plays fine. He made that song file a long time ago, for reference to what comes next. I then get crafty and suspect Audacity is playing games with me on my PC, so I head over to my brothers with a flashdrive and make my .wav's from his Audacity and bring them over. They also don't work.
At this point, I don't know if it's either A) My files refuse to be converted correctly, for no clear reason, or B) There's a problem where my file doesn't get audibly transported through the program. Help would really be appreciated, as a friend of mine is having the *exact* same issue, and we both started trying this tonight (1/12/12).
