[CS:S & PC] HLDJ doesnt work, and disabled my mic.

Let me get out of the way that this has nothing to do with improper conversion.

I get a strange, almost "whooping" noise whenever I try to play anything (I would have a video, but I don't know how). I followed the "conversion" steps to the letter, the noise still played. I tried tweaking stuff under the effect tab (like I saw in someone's reply). I also tried using some of the files from the submit audio section (I couldn't get QuickTime to download the samples). Whenever I press "test mic" the whooping sound plays through that as well. The whooping noise only plays when I attempt to play a song in HLDJ. If I try to use my voice (to speak), It doesn't "register". No one can hear me, and when I did an online mic test, it still didn't work.

I tested this same mic on another PC, and it works flawlessly. On my PC, it doesn't work at all, in any program. All I get is a low static noise when I attempt to speak on my mic.

At this point I am unconcerned about getting HLDJ to work, I simply want my mic working again. I tried deleting HLDJ, restarting my pc, and seeing if that fixed it. Deleting HLDJ did nothing, the same sounds played, and my mic still didn't work.

Edit: after deleting HLDJ, I reinstalled it, re-did everything, and made sure that the processes were stopped. It fixed nothing, the problems were exactly the same.

HLDJ does not modify your microphone settings outside of the game you are using it in.

Allright, thanks. Ill keep messing around to see if I can fix it. Do you have any idea what could be causing problems in-game though? I have no idea what could be causing issues. Lastly, thank you for running a help forum.

the relevant cvars changed in-game are voice_loopback and voice_inputfromfile, which are set back to defaults (0) by HLDJ on closing. Note that HLDJ will work fine in the presence of any microphone issues or even no microphone at all (as long as the game thinks there is one present it will work); so HLDJ not working is unrelated.
as for the microphone, you should probably investigate it at the OS level first (i.e. Control Panel->Sound->Recording, driver issues, etc) before changing any specific application/game settings.

going into the control panel, running a check, and then re-installing my driver fixed everything. Thanks for the help.
