TF2: HLDJ doesn't play music

Post by Edgar »

Hi everyone,

I just set up HLDJ for Team Fortress 2. Setting up went perfectly fine: I have the directory set, I have a Play key and HLDJ shows up in my console. Then, I select a song and HLDJ tells me the song is loaded. However, when I press my Play key in game, nothing happens. There's not even a rectangular box with my name in it indicating that something is happening.

I already checked the TF2 folder and voice_input.wav is updated.
voice_loopback is set to 1 so that I should I'm able to hear myself.
The Play key is not bound to any other function in TF2.
The manual playaudio command does not do anything either.

I have no idea why it does not work, so.. please help? :)

Well, I found out what the problem was: line-in was not enabled. Vista, in combination with my Realtek HD Audio drivers, forced my line-in to be disabled by default. Team Fortress needs the line-in to be enabled to work. XP would enable you to adjust this through volume control, but my Vista required a registry tweak.

This is what I found:
If you have a Realtek HD audio chipset (mine is an ALC268) with a Vista OS and need to activate the built-in software audio router (input monitor) you need to enable by modifying the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000\Settings\ForceDisableID

Edit the Binary Value from "00" to "01" and reboot. Your Realtek HD Audio Manager will now have extra tabs, one of which is 'FrontLineIn'. Select this tab and click the 'Line In Playback' button to modify settings according to your preference.
And it fixed the problem for me.
