won't play music

a friend recommended i use HL DJ for those TF2 battles to make them just more epic. i downloaded it, put songs on it, etc.
it played once, but i had the play key the same as the mic key, so i had to constantly hold the key down while i played and i couldn't talk. my friend told me how i could fix it by changing the play button to a different key. i did, but then it stopped working. then i changed it again, it didn't work, and again, and it still don't work. when i press the play key, it makes an odd thump sound (it sounds similar to a heartbeat) and does nothing.

can anyone help me here? thanks!
