Been trying to get HLDJ (v1.5.02 this time) to work again after reinstalling my machine to run Windows 7 Professional (64bit) instead of the previous (32bit) Windows Vista Home Premium. HLDJ worked with Vista, not with 7 now. Have tried following the steps in HELP, searched the forum, tried different sound clips, even the test ones. Servers I've tried on do support HLSS/HLSJ and microphone in general. If you are still experiencing problems, please include the following diagnostics in your help request:
No custom audio settings have been made since 7-installation. Everything is "out of the box".
Quad core Intel, no AMD.
Songs load in-game, but "playaudio" does nothing. The "Mic" icon does not even appear.
Hope there's something you can do to help.

1) Does HLDJ launch the game correctly for you?
** Yes. Game(GoldSrc: TFC) loads from the HLDJ application, TFC console displays HLDJ information.
2) Does "HLDJ Loaded Successfully" appear in console on starting the game (with no errors)?
Yes.
hldj_cmd_a.cfg successfully created!
couldn't exec hldj_custom.cfg
HLDJ successfully loaded
3) What is the console output after selecting a song, or issuing other HLDJ commands such as "hldj_next"?
hldj_cmd_c.cfg successfully created!
"=" = "Loaded--Rick_Astley_-_Never_Gonna_Give_You_Up
4) After loading a song, perform a search in your Steam directory (without stopping HLDJ) for the file "voice_input.wav" - does it show up? where?
Yes. The file voice_input.wav shows as a shortcut to C:\Users\Public\Public Apps\HLDJ\GoldSrc Audio\3 Music
I only assumed it was a shortcut because of the "arrow" on the icon.
Sidenote:
hldj_custom.cfg, and hldj_custom.cfg.orig.hldj also show up as shortcuts.
5) Does voice normally work for you? If not, or you do not have a mic, have you remembered to set up the appropriate options in your OS and the game?
No / I don't know. I do not and have never owned a microphone for this computer. It previosly ran Vista Home Premium, 32bit, where HLDJ did work in both GoldSrc (TFC, CS) and Source (L4D) games.
Honestly, I wouldn't know how/what to do to "appropriately" set the "right" options in Windows 7. I don't know what it needs to work. I'm honestly clueless and walking blindly. :S Would you happen to know which kind of options I would need to set in the OS?
Solution:
Alright, I found the solution that worked for me.
Problem:
HLDJ and everything seems to work OK, except that audio does not play in games.
Notes:
When checking the sound option (right-click volume icon by clock, select Recording Devices), there is no option for "Mix", "Rec", or "Playback".
Solution:
Download the drivers from AUDIO CARD or PC manufacturer (Example, Dell, or Creative). "Mix", "Rec", or "Playback". will now appear in the Recording Device option (right-click and select "Show disabled devices"), enable the one you need and HLDJ should work, it did for me on this issue.
