HLDJ Doesnt Show Up

I followed the manual and setup my HLDJ correctly as far as I can tell. It worked a few times and then just stopped. It no longer shows up in the console. I've tried redownloading it and all. My console never says HLDJ. Any ideas?

make sure you click the play button for HLDJ to work.

Yes I have hit play and have TF2 selected and the directories properly setup. Like I said it used to work and then it stopped. It used to say some info about HLDJ in the console once I pressed the play button. Now nothing shows up and if I try using any of the HLDJ commands like hldj or hldj1 it says unknown command.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but do you have "launch game when HLDJ is started" or something like that?
If not with the game closed, go to options, and check the box to enable that setting. Than press play.

You are doing this before HL is open right? (if it makes a difference, idkk, but its worth a try)

After pressing Start in HLDJ, check to see if the config files were generated correctly:
go to your TF2's "cfg" directory (...\steamapps\accountname\Team Fortress 2\tf2\cfg). You should see a few "hldj_" config files and an "autoexec.cfg". Open this last one up and make sure that the line "exec hldj_init.cfg" is included; this is what allows the game to recognize hldj commands.

If not, post a screenshot of your TF2 setup in HLDJ or at least give us the game dir you are using.

Ok, it does create all those config files and I do have an autoexec.cfg that has exec hldj_init.cfg inside it.

Have you tried it with any other games? Because It can be either the HLDJ that is messing up or the TF2.

Uh... I'll get back to you with the results then. TF2 is the only source game I have downloaded right now lol. It'll be a while to download CS:S.

That should be all that's needed to at least get the commands to work. While in TF2, pull down the console and type either "exec autoexec.cfg" or "exec hldj_init.cfg" and see if that works. Basically autoexec.cfg is executed by the game automatically (hence the name), if it's not, something might be up with TF2.

Yep, entering exec autoexec.cfg does indeed cause HLDJ to work correctly... Now what on earth is wrong with my TF2? :/

sigh, I've been asking myself the same questions since the day Valve put it out. It's been shoddy work from the get-go (see the numerous work-arounds I've had to hack in just to get around TF2's "special" problems).
As far as I know though, TF2 still does respect the autoexec.cfg, though maybe that's changing as I'm assuming you've just downloaded the newest version?
For now, you might want to remember to type that in on start-up, or bind a key to it, but see what happens when you try CS:S and keep us posted.

Bad news. Now I can use HLDJ but I can't turn. :/ My mouse now does not control the character. I have a mouse cursor on screen and I can move that but I cannot turn or look as the player. This happened when I typed exec autoexec.cfg. It has begun loading HLDJ on startup of TF2 now though, but like I said this problem kinda negates the progess..

Sounds like something very odd is happening on your system. To be on the safe side, make sure HLDJ is set to "minimize on game start" and "minimize to tray" in Options. Other than that, pop-up windows (i.e. messenger) can affect the game badly, when this happens alt+tab in/out a couple times until the mouse cursor is gone.

Welll I closed HLDJ then restarted TF2 and my controls were back to normal. Then I started HLDJ back up and manually entered the exec autoexec.cfg and it seems to be working. I guess that is just how I'm going to have to run it. Seems to work good though once I figured all this out.
