if you want HLDJ to start the game, make sure "Launch game" is checked in Options.
also verify you have the Steam broswer protocol installed (which is installed by Steam)

ensure you've followed step 4 correctly when setting up your server.

- make sure voice_input and your audio files are not being opened by another program
- try disabling Steam Cloud
- try clearing out any hldj_ found in your Steam directory after stopping HLDJ.

make sure to remove any metadata/id3 tags from the file during the conversion process.

post screenshots of the contents of the following directories:
- the game directory
- the game's "cfg" directory (if it has one)
- the directory one level up from the game directory

yes HLDJ uses voice_inputfromfile.
a recent version posted announcements can also playback the sound locally.

make sure to remove any ID3 tags while converting.

The game may not be able to generate more than 500 aliases, so first try loading from a folder with around 100 songs.
hldj_rand just picks a random song from the list of current audio.

4-c) No --> you haven't configured the server properly, refer to the sticky for instructions.

It's strange that it would work before and suddenly stop working. I can't really say what it is, but you might try re-installing Steam and your game, see if that works. Also try it on another computer if you have one.

Try these things:
- after stopping HLDJ, search your Steam directory for any "hldj_..." files and delete them.
- turn off Steam Cloud
- english language version of your game
- run HLDJ as Administrator
